An Oklahoma student says one of the university's football recruits punched her in the face last week, leaving her with four broken bones, The Oklahoman reported.
No charges have been filed against Joe Mixon—the five-star recruit in question—or anyone else in the case, and police say they are still investigating. Today, though, police said that there was an "altercation" in the early hours of Friday morning between Mixon and 20-year-old Amelia Rae Molitor at Pickleman's Gourmet Café in Norman. The police statement doesn't say what happened next, just that it "concluded with Molitor sustaining injuries to her face." A police report said that Molitor was found bleeding from the mouth.
By the time police arrived, Mixon was gone. There is video of what happened, but police said the "evidentiary value of the recording prohibits its release at this time."
Molitor told The Oklahoman that Mixon punched her once in the face, breaking her face in four places. And, yes, she's worried about backlash from Oklahoma fans.
"That's my big fear (the fans)," said Molitor, who also is an Oklahoma student, per the paper. "I've been told to stay off of social media to avoid (OU fans) coming after me on there."
The Internet, of course, confirmed that her fears were correct. One jerk, who called himself "East Contra Costa County's top sports journalist," took the blame-the-victim route Monday on Twitter, posting what he called Molitor's "multiple criminal violations and imprisonments"—which were just a couple of citations for marijuana and underage drinking.
Update: Mixon's lawyer has released a statement saying his client met with investigators and did "nothing wrong."
"This past Friday morning Joe Mixon found himself in a situation where he was subjected to both verbal and physical attacks from a very intoxicated and troubled young woman," said Finlay in the statement, per SoonerScoop.com. "As a result of these physical attacks, Joe instinctually defended himself against further harm."
