Last night, Washington's defensive backs entered the field with their hands held high, a silent but striking tribute to Michael Brown, the unarmed 18-year-old shot to death by police in Ferguson, Mo., earlier this month.
The gesture, along with a chant of "Hands up, don't shoot" has been a familiar sight in the ongoing protests in Ferguson. Washington's veteran DBs came up with the idea to reach for the sky as they entered as a unit.
"We just wanted everybody to know that we support Michael and acknowledge what happened in Ferguson,'' said Brandon Meriweather.
"Anytime you get an opportunity to do something like that, it's something that needs to be discussed, something that you truly need to believe," Ryan Clark said. "That could have been any one of us. That could have been any one of our brothers, our cousins, just anyone."
