Nadezhda Sergeeva, the pilot for the Russian women’s bobsled team, has tested positive for a banned heart medication. The kicker to this story: Earlier this month, she showed off her “I Don’t Do Doping” sweatshirt.
Sergeeva’s sled finished 12th. The Russian Bobsled Federation confirmed the positive test, but said none of its doctors had prescribed her the banned drug. Sergeeva denied taking the drug. The Associated Press identified it as trimetazidine, a drug used to treat heart disease and which improves athletes’ oxygen use.
On Monday, Russian mixed doubles curling bronze medalist Aleksandr Krushelnitckii was also busted for doping. Russia was initially banned from the 2018 Olympics completely but hundreds of athletes were eventually allowed to compete as “Olympic Athletes from Russia.”
