Report: Larry Nassar Is Being Shuffled Between Federal Prisons Following Reports Of Inmate Assault

The Detroit News reported in May that disgraced former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State doctor Larry Nassar was assaulted by fellow inmates at the United States Penitentiary, Tucson, “within hours of being released into the general population,” according to his attorney. Now it appears that Nassar is being transferred to another federal prison, in search of one where he can be among the general population without being subjected to abuse.

Larry Nassar has been moved from the federal penitentiary in Tucson, Arizona, and is likely being transferred to another federal prison in the wake of being assaulted, experts said.

On Sunday, the Federal Bureau of Prisons website showed that Nassar is no longer at the high security prison in Tucson, six months after he was first housed there. He is now at Oklahoma Federal Transfer Center, a holdover facility.

The News spoke to “a retired Bureau of Prisons employee who specialized in sex offender designations in the Designation and Sentence Computation Center,” who says it’s likely that Nassar is now at the holdover facility because he “could not be safely housed” at the Tucson facility due to “an identified threat.” Nassar is currently appealing his sentencing for multiple counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. His request to have sentencing judge Rosemarie Aquilina disqualified was denied earlier this week.
