You are mostly right about Judge. I think when he is just relaying insights into the game that the coaches and players tell him his writing is very interesting. He gives lots of info that the normal fan wouldn't know about. Now, when he tries to analyze that information by himself he almost always comes off as a Read more

Lynn Henning is by far the worst beat writer, but he may not qualify, as everyone is pretty sure half of his salary is paid by the Tigers, contingent on his agreement with every move the front office makes ever. Read more

I was a writing intern for KFAN last summer and covered the Twins for their site. To me, Rhett Bollinger and La Velle E. Neal were far and away the best reporters in the press box. Reusse is hated by many, but can still crank out a good column every now and then. Phil Mackey always had this 'I'm better than everyone Read more

I'll agree with Kyle B on pretty much every point. I've met Mason and Bollinger before and think that both are very level-headed guys that offer both valid praise and criticisms in their writing without taking an editorial tone. Rhett does a very good job at highlighting his content on mlb.com and Tyler has had a Read more

Lynn Henning covers the Tigers for the Detroit News Read more

The Cubs writer, Paul Sullivan, is becoming the lead baseball guy on both teams, they're moving Gonzo to the Cubs and giving the Sox Kane. Read more

You're missing Dave Hogg, who writes for the FSDetroit website and the AP. He's great on Twitter and a good writer. I might also put Shannon Hogan from FSD on there but she doesn't just do the Tigers so maybe not. Also, Tony Paul of the Detroit News is their "national baseball writer" but covers the Tigers more often Read more

Jordan Bastian probably the best, he is the "young mans" beat reporter Read more

Bob Dutton is great. He always provides the organization's (faulty) rationale in an informative manner, seemingly knowing the response he'll get from readers. Dick Kaegel writes directly for the Royals, but he is a professional writer, nothing good or bad, just a guy whose employer is important. Read more

Iott and Beck are great. Both very active on twitter during game day with insight and entertaining tweets. Very quick and accurate to get information out in their publishings and twitter. Iott might be the quickest to publish a story ever. I am glad to have these two covering my beloved Tigers. Read more

Jason Beck flat out gets it done. Concise but complete gamers, informative and funny Twitter follow (spotting obscure jerseys at the ballpark is a passion of his), and he breaks stories. Seems to have a good disposition for being a beat writer. His knowledge about the game, and the Tigers organization specifically, is Read more

The beat reporters in MSP really don't distinguish themselves from each other. LaVelle is more annoying when he is on KFAN droning on about watching Bears games at Allory's. Now the columnists on the other hand...... Read more

Ignoring Rany Jazayerli is a travesty here. He's not a beat reporter, but he's the Grant Brisbee of the Royals. Read more

Dutton is phenomenal. His mix of snark and information when responding on Twitter is perfect for a guy who just recently started tweeting. He reports thoroughly what the Royals tell him and doesn't get frustrated when people (repeatedly) make the mistake of thinking he works for the Royals. Read more

And let us not forget Patrick Reusse of the Star Tribune. He isn't liked by many. Read more
