A triple play is one of those rare great pleasures in baseball—even when the Yankees turn it!—the kind of happening that makes you turn to your kid (or someone else's kid, if you have forgotten your own kid), and say, son, that's the reason we put up with hours and hours of stepping off the rubber and out of the batter's box, and walks on walks on walks, and too many losses. Now go ahead and deal with the eighth-inning stylings of Tommy Hunter.
Even better, this was, according to MLB.com, the first 4-6-5-6-5-3-4 triple play in big league history. The triple play, too, killed a budding eighth-inning rally, and the Orioles went down fairly quickly in the ninth.
