Disgraced '80s relic/wingnut Dinesh D'Souza, having pleaded guilty to violating federal campaign finance law, is currently living in a halfway house as part of his probation. This probably makes it difficult to promote his new movie, America: Imagine the World Without Her, which one reviewer describes as "shredding the lies and distortions massaged by the adipose-friendly, hirsute Michael Moore and 'historians' on major leftard campuses." Still, there are various ways to get your message out there, as he pointed out in a tweet yesterday:
This would seem like a strange promotion for the Kings to get involved with, especially given the nature of the "lies and distortions" apparently under attack in the movie.
First, that the genocide of Native Americans happened in relation to the conquest of their land; second, that African slave labor was exploited to build the American economy; third, that Mexican territories were conquered to form the U.S. Southwest; fourth, that U.S. wars abroad have involved imperial motives; fifth, that capitalism is bad. He goes to the trouble of listing these myths in text on what appears to be a massive parchment-esqe Powerpoint slide, and the structure of the film is a methodical treatment of each in turn.
When we asked the Kings what's going on here, though, a spokesperson said they have nothing to do with this.
The Kings have absolutely no affiliation with this promotion. Anyone claiming to have our support is fabricating our involvement for their own benefit.
We were still sort of confused—maybe D'Souza or someone involved with the movie bought some Jumbotron time?—but it appears that the Kings not only do not endorse but actually have nothing at all to do with America: Imagine the World Without Her.
The organization was unware of this promotion until we viewed the erroneous tweets including an unauthorized use of our logo. We did not authorize utilization of the Kings brand in any way and the team is not associated with the promotion.
Mr. D'Souza did not purchase time on the Sleep Train Arena jumbotron. If he claims otherwise, it's a false representation.
Mr. D'Souza is in the process of removing the fraudulent tweets, if he hasn't already.
Bad luck if you were headed to the game hoping to score a free DVD, it seems.
