The Washington Capitals entered the second period tonight against the Bruins down 2-0, and after a couple of scoreless games prior, they were staring down the longest goal drought in team history. But Lars Eller ended the struggle at 12:31, and less than two minutes later, Alex Ovechkin took a powerplay opportunity and did the thing that’s made him rich and famous for over a decade.
Ovechkin makes these plays a lot, netting goal after goal with his superpowered shot. But dang, it’s just as pretty tonight as it was the first time I saw it. As long as Ovie’s wearing a Capitals uniform, everyone knows that any scoring dry spell will eventually disappear.
