Oh, Review, by far. Did you watch what they made Forrest do this season?!?!?!
Showrunner, though I dearly miss Fire Joe Morgan and wish those three guys could restart it as a site where all the displaced Grantlanders could go.

Like the Affair, I’m at least a half-season behind. Didn’t hate what I saw, but also feel minimal enthusiasm to catch up. I may be okay just moving past it. Too many things that excite me more.

Vince thinks he made it to Alaska, and who I am to disagree with the polite gentleman with the stylish goatee?

Transparent’s the best show on either service right now, but Netflix has a deeper roster. If you take original programming out of it and just ask which streaming service is the best buy, I’d actually say ad-free Hulu, because their back catalog is so much vaster *and* it gives you next-day access to lots of great… Read more
Oh, it’s amazing. One of the year’s very best shows.

Not my overall favorite right now, but I’m super-impressed with it. And I watch the Jan Quadrant Vincent trailer at least 2 times per week.

I expect someone will try a reboot within the next decade, but I can’t imagine it working, because the show got too much of a bad (and unfair) reputation based on the final season, so few people will trust it, and because I can’t imagine Lindelof being involved, and he’s the guy who made so much of it special (and who… Read more
I do not, for reasons I articulate at length in the Sopranos chapter of the book, and which now reflects David Chase’s recent comments on the subject. But I’m also not opposed to the idea that it happened, whereas the Tony Dies people seem to believe that’s the only acceptable interpretation. It’s ambiguous.

I refer you to my earlier comment about the serial killing ways of Mr. Landry “Lance” Clarke.

Porzingis. The Giants have already given me the joy of those two Super Bowl wins, and we’ve seen these last two seasons that there’s only so much even a transcendent receiver like Beckham can do for a team. Porzingis is the most hope I’ve had for this miserable Knicks franchise in this century. He could get hurt, he… Read more
I’m at least half a season behind, and not sure when or if I’ll catch up. My problem last year was that I loved everything about it except the Noah/Allison relationship. Them being together at the start of the new season only increased my lack of interest, even though Helen and Cole started getting their own… Read more
I recap Rectify occasionally, but not every week (I prefer to just experience it most weeks), and that’s pretty great. UnReal on Lifetime was shockingly good, and I didn’t recap that. The Knick, etc. There are definitely shows that, for one reason or another, I love but don’t want to recap.

The Wire ones were done specifically because I didn’t have a blog when the first three seasons aired. The only time so far where I redid blog entries for a show I had already covered in this format was Deadwood season 3, and that’s because my original posts were shorter and more sporadic than I liked in hindsight. I… Read more
I don’t know that it’s aged as well as some of its contemporaries, which is one of the reasons I didn’t put it in Revolution, even though its historical importance is at least equal to, if not greater than, Deadwood’s. (At a certain point, I decided I didn’t want to do too many HBO shows, and I realized I’d be much… Read more
When I was much younger and much skinnier, I was occasionally mistaken for Ralph Macchio circa the Karate Kid. True story.

I don’t think the quality of TD s1 was the issue with s2. It was the absence of Cary Joji Fukunaga, and it was the writer biting off way more than he could chew in terms of characterization and plot.

If the show’s great and you give me all of them at once, I’ll watch all of them at once, as I happily did with Master of None and Transparent. (Though it helps that both of those are half-hour shows, and I could thus marathon them much more easily.) If your show is a slog like Bloodline or even parts of Jessica Jones,… Read more
You are not crazy. Saul season 1 is better than Breaking Bad season 1, because Vince and the gang have a better command of what they’re doing at this point. But there’s still a lot of room to grow, particularly if it wants to start taking the same kind of leaps that BB did in seasons 2 and 3.
