That is a cool story, good for them. I loved the Cynicale, and will try to track down some Bitter Brewer sometime. Thanks for the tip. Read more

That’s awesome, I’d love to be there at the beginning of something like that, and I suspect your beer store friend is right. I bet some people get pissed and think he’s just being a difficult snob about it, but it really doesn’t resemble too many beers I can think of. Read more

VT is a very good brewing state, but I’m not sure they’ve got a Grain Belt or even a Schell’s, nothing really strong on the lower and middle tiers. It’s like ... Magic Hat, Otter Creek, or wait in line all morning for the privilege of maybe getting a ticket to come back later and buy beer. Read more

Shit, you really nailed the Hef. I couldn’t place it, but yeah, it’s not just bubble gum, it’s dusty, gimmicky, pouched bubble gum. Read more

I haven’t had Aprihop yet this year, but I remember it fondly for sure. And I’m with you on liking it (more, at least) when I started straying from Sam, and I really wish there was some way to be sure what changed more, my preferences or the #9 recipe. Read more

Ha, I love my badges as much as the next guy, and I hunt them when I’m drinking at home. But I drink at bars a lot, and I feel like a tool whippin’ out the phone all the time. Read more

I have not reviewed Pinkus, and I don’t think I’ve ever tried it. I’m with you on pilsners all the way around, I think (and definitely agree that hops are like the beer version of bacon or hot sauce, something that can be great but too often used as a band-aid). So I’ll try Pinkus next time I see it and have some Read more

And I called Ale Asylum Bedlam something hyperbolically great, like the Midwest’s Finest Beer or something. I love it. WI beer is so legit. Read more

Yeah, I used “overrated” in my headline for Spotted Cow, too. I gave the overall title to Oberon just because it has much wider distribution and as such has fooled so many more people, but Spotted Cow is overrated for sure. Read more

Why have I never thought of it? Sure, that’ll do the trick quite nicely (if you like olives, of course). Thanks for the tip! Read more

I’ve only had this a couple times, and never made it myself, but I wish I’d remembered to include it, or at least consider it. The couple I’ve had were very good chickens. Read more

I didn’t disparage bourbon, I said it was a top-3 foodstuff! And the list isn’t arranged in any particular order. Bitters is probably the one I use most, because it’s easiest. Read more

Aw man, that’d be cool. I’m going to try to think of how to request this from the art department. Thanks for reading, and for the good idea. Read more

agreed on variety experimentation, for sure. I love trying Beer X But With Hop Y This Time. Read more

I hear you, but I don’t think I come across many bad ones. I agree that hops are like bacon in the way people just throw them at any damn thing to try to cover up flaws, but the thing is: it works. So I’m not necessarily *impressed* by a lot of IPAs, but I still like the vast majority of them. Read more

Damn, Chocolate City’s a good name for a brewery, too. Read more

I also like DC Brau’s prices. that’s an expensive-ass city (from what I understand) but their website says it’s mostly all $10 per sixer or growler at the brewery. Comparable new Boston-area beers are 1.5x to double that. Read more

I considered Corruption for this one, but I haven’t tried the weed one, that’s awesome. I’m not sure DC Brau is sticking around my market (Massachusetts) or was just up here retail for a month on the fest-related gray market, because who knows how beer distro works, but I was impressed with the couple I got to try.
