Michy Batshuayi has never been Chelsea’s best striker in his year-plus of service for the Blues, but he’s been there when they’ve truly needed a goal, and he was able to cement an eternal place in club history when he scored the goal that won the Premier League last year.
Today in Madrid, at the very end of a tied Champions League match, Batshuayi was in the right place at the right time once again, getting the tap-in goal at the buzzer to give Chelsea a 2-1 comeback win over their group’s other giants, Atlético Madrid.
Of course, as dramatic as this goal is, it doesn’t win them any trophies, but it at least puts Chelsea in the driver’s seat to win this year’s Champions League Group of Death. Keep sticking Michy in front of goal late in games, and maybe they can go even farther.
