Late in last night’s win over the Los Angeles Lakers, Austin Rivers fell onto Blake Griffin’s knee while scrambling with Lonzo Ball for a loose ball. Griffin fell to the ground clutching his knee and checked out for good after the next Clippers possession.
After the game, Doc Rivers didn’t have a diagnosis to share, but he ominously said, “It didn’t look good.” Griffin has suffered a series of injuries to his left knee already, including a torn meniscus in 2012 and a broken kneecap in 2009.
The Clippers are now missing Milos Teodosic, Patrick Beverley (for the season), Danilo Gallinari, and Griffin, for a stint that will depend on the ultimate severity of this injury. They are 8-11, bad at defense, unable to score, and their current best player, DeAndre Jordan, has looked adrift without Chris Paul (or, say, any point guard) passing him the ball. What a shit start to the season.
