Chris Kluwe Leaves The Pioneer-Press After The Paper Publishes An Anti-Gay Marriage Editorial

Friend of Deadspin, Minnesota Vikings punter, and muse for confused idiots Chris Kluwe put his platform where his mouth is today and told the St. Paul Pioneer-Press (for whom he'd been blogging) to fuck off after they published an anti-gay marriage editorial this week.

After the announcement pictured above, Kluwe continued in a follow-up tweet, "I will not be associated with any organization that tries to pull some bullshit like that. Have the strength of your convictions." The bit about the paper's convictions refers to the wishy-washy nature of the editorial, which asked not to be read as an endorsement of either side, but mostly attacked pro-gay marriage arguments. Minnesotans will vote on an anti gay-marriage amendment on Tuesday-if passed, it will define marriage as between a man and a woman in the state constitution.

Kluwe went on to write that the editorial tried "to confuse people through obfuscation and selected presentation of arguments." He's now live-tweeting his first reading of Atlas Shrugged, which he bought at the airport before the Vikings got on their plane to Seattle for tomorrow's game. (He's not a fan.)

In a piece on Kluwe's exit and the editorial, David Brauer of MinnPost notes that this power play hits the Pioneer-Press right where it hurts: "[Kluwe's] 'Out of Bounds' blog has occasionally brought six-figure page views."
