Chris Rainey: Waived For "Horsing Around With The Fire Extinguisher"

Former Colts running back Chris Rainey was mysteriously waived by the team on July 28th for "violating a team rule." No other reason was given, but while live-tweeting his former team's first preseason game against the Jets tonight, Rainey inadvertently revealed that it involved horsing around with a fire extinguisher and fellow running back Dan Herron was also present.

During Colts-Jets, Rainey congratulated Herron (he's the "Boom") on scoring a touchdown, while also implicating him in whatever fire-extinguisher shenanigans he claims led to his waiver. He later deleted that tweet and a few others where he insulted followers' mammas. He apparently feels like Herron left him high and dry.

Whatever actually happened in that hallway with the fire extinguisher, it must have really pissed off the Colts. Just two days before they waived him, Chuck Pagano was speaking like Rainey had the inside track on a roster spot.

Chuck Pagano agreed Rainey's ability to return kicks definitely gives him an advantage to making the squad. "Absolutely," Pagano replied. "He looks like the old Chris Rainey."

Pagano went on to tell a story about how he was getting ready to go back to coaching in college as defensive coordinator at North Carolina and was given a recruiting DVD of Rainey. He watched it with his youngest daughter. After a few plays, she told Pagano, "Go get that guy." "It looked like everybody else was standing still on the tape," Pagano replied. "That's what he looks like now."

Fire safety is serious business.
