Christy Mack spoke out against her ex, former UFC star War Machine, on tonight’s Real Sports on HBO—alleging the MMA fighter attempted multiple rapes and repeated other sadistic forms of violence against her. War Machine remains in jail, awaiting trial on the charges that include attempted murder and sexual assault.
Mack is still suffering from the injuries she says a steroids-fueled War Machine caused her after months of abuse, including missing teeth and a lacerated liver. HBO also acquired photos from the case involving War Machine’s alleged second assault victim, Corey Thomas:
HBO found that MMA fighters abuse women at a rate more than twice that of the general population; they asked UFC analyst and current trainer Rener Gracie to apply a rear naked choke to reporter David Scott as a demonstration of the weapons MMA stars possess when engaged in violence against women:
Bellator, War Machine’s most recent employer, signed him to a contract while he was incarcerated on a previous domestic violence conviction. HBO asked Bellator why they signed the alleged serial abuser, and in fact promoted him using jailhouse video; the promotion did not provide a substantial response.
HBO also asked for comment from UFC president Dana White; he, too, declined to comment, and Real Sports highlighted White’s hypocrisy in claiming that domestic abusers would not be welcome in UFC.
“If he ever gets out, he will kill me,” Mack told HBO. “I still have a few more surgeries to go through and a lot of healing time. I don’t even have my permanent teeth yet even.”
