Dead Letters: "Something Fishy With Game 7?"

Subject: Something Fishy with Game 7?

Did anyone notice anything fishy about Chalmers’ 3-pointer at the end of the 3rd Q?

So another “malfunction” happened during a championship game - this time not as dramatic or as blatant as the Super Bowl: the shot-clock. When the shot-clock conveniently “went out” just as the spurs were gaining momentum, the clock read 2:16. Then when they fixed it, it went back to 2:18. Chalmers’ 3pt shot came with 1.4 left in the quarter - that’s a 1.4 second window of opportunity; a window that should have existed had it not been for a clock “malfunction.” Hmm I don’t know, maybe I was a little too cross-faded last night but when it comes to corruption in sports, I can spot that shit from half-way across the fucking galaxy. Besides, a little 2 second spurt is just small enough to slip the radar of most Sheeple but I saw it and the people I was watching the game with saw it too.

Also on another note: I’ve noticed a correlation between commercials and the killing of momentum. The NBA - since Yao - has gone international. And with Ranadive’s purchase of the Kings, they are now seeking - with the help of start-up investor, Naren Gupta, to expand the NBA to India. Now something of intest to take note of is the trade we’ve opened up to South Korea since about 2005. Since 2005, Samsung, KIA, and Vizio - 3 south Korean companies - have flourished. YUM a new company the consists of a Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and a KFC all in one restaurant, is now making its presence known in many countries all throughout southeast Asia. Additionally in 2011, 90% of all Global Direct Investments (GDI; investments for “developing” land) were situated in the Global South and Asia. These themes seem to suggest that the companies of the Global North have intense interests and intents to spread and develop as much land in the Global South as possible. This essentially means that many companies owned and operated by Metropolitan 400 (in accordance with Mills’ The Power Elite) stand to make a shit-ton of money off of the of these underdeveloped countries; what better way to do it than to spread basketball and junk food that we all seem to protest (Monsanto, Super-size me, etc) but everyone else in the world seems to adore.

Why is this all relevant and what is the correlation between momentum and commercials? It’s simple math. The NBA is highly invested in the Miami Heat for obvious reasons - look at the playoff format. Game six AND seven at Miami, really? And remember the starter fiasco in Miami at the beginning of the season? Stern wanted the Heat to win. I say this because we’ve seen it before (Lakers 2001) and Stern’s history and reputation aren’t exactly the most solid of things. Whenever the Spurs started to gain momentum, a timeout was called. Now I know coaches use timeouts to nip momentum in the bud - especially basketball. But these TV timeouts are ridiculous. You know how many fucking KIA Cadenza commercials I’ve watched all series? KIA - a South Korean Company with many interests in the NBA, Samsung, another South Korean company, with their Galaxy bits at half time with that Williams character and their commercials that ran rampant throughout the series. Fact is commercials ran and shot-clocks went out just as the Spurs started to gain momentum - not just once, but all throughout the series. The whole game seemed rigged. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t. But what matters now is that the biggest face of the NBA is now its champion - in a year when the NBA may finally expand its market to the 1.2 billion people in India, who better to be the face of that deal than the King himself.

Many interesting things will be occurring within the next few months. Things to take note of: the companies of AMD, Qualcomm, Tibco (Ranadive’s company), and Yum (their stock prices and any new hires and expansions specifically in southeast Asia. AMD’s stock (with a new South Korean national as VP of marketing in the Pacific division) should rise, and Qualcomm may buy them out. Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs was part of the investing team that bought the Kings (their Snapdragon processor commercials also ran rampant throughout the series). That investment team - while there is no solid connection yet - is essentially investing in AMD vicariously because of their contracts to make the new PS4 and Xbox One. Since the NBA is the biggest marketing stage - essentially now an international stage - they will plan to use the Kings and their marketing abilities to show off the Xbox and PS4. And since they pretty much hate Microsoft (they bid against Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft. also AMD and Samsung have pretty much declared that they no longer want anything to do with Microsoft) they will probably end up putting the final dagger in that company and control a “system” war that was probably just a demolition agenda anyway; an agenda to wipe out a heavy controlling interest in the tech field - Microsoft.

Why this year? Why not? Let’s look at the facts. FIFA 14 will be the world cup edition, Madden is coming out the the 25th anniversary, GTA V, Halo V, and new state-of-the-art processors will be supporting these games. This is literally shit we haven’t seen since Nintendo v Sega. It’ll be interesting to see how things turn out over the next few months.

Barry, Dom, and the rest of the gang writing on the Bruins, and more importantly, the Stanley Cup Playoffs, thank you. Sorry I had to have a temper tantrum earlier this month, but hockey needs it’s dues, and you guys should be eating it up. This sport should be right up your alley.

Do you need someone to talk to? I mean, you’re reaching out for contact a hell of a lot over on the website. Is it a cry for help? I don’t mean to pry into your personal life, but if you’re feeling lonely, I’m always down for a few beers and a round of Mario Kart.

Did you know?

Half of Mercury had never been seen.

HOLY SHIT.

Sorry, that was a poor choice of fact. I didn’t realize it said “had” in the title; I thought it said has. That’s like saying, she used to be a virgin. Well no shit. Why didn’t they make a fact about how the entirety of Mercury has never been seen?

As consolation, I’ve included a picture of one of my idols growing up.

Just wondering why there is a follow-up post about the Putin-Kraft SB ring dispute on Gawker that’s not cross-posted to Deadspin. Won’t get into the already mentioned dumping of much “men’s interest” Gawker content that seems to be dumped on ‘spin already. Just curious as to why on a slow news’ day, y’all wouldn’t be interested in cross-posting something that not only clears up the redundancy issue of the original Leitch post, pointed out by commenters yesterday with a fully formed post containing a rebuttal by the former Russian President. Happy Father’s Day.

I apologize for the terrible grammatical redundancy in my inquiry into the Putin-Kraft post. Sorry. Been drinking.

Shit, just refreshed and see that y’all now have it up. My apologies. I’m sure time-spacing is an issue for y’all on a weekends. Enjoy you’re day. Thanks.

Dead Tweets

I’ve never received an email back from a Deadspin writer. It’s literally the only publication. And I’ve been polite.

Also, Deadspin was a totally different, and in my opinion much better website when Leitch was editing/writing/dominating.

— Nate Drexler (@natedrex) June 20, 2013

Alright. I take it all back about Deadspin. Sons of bitches won my heart back.
