Documents Reveal Disturbing Details Of War Machine's Alleged Assault

Clark County (Nev.) prosecutors released documents today outlining MMA fighter War Machine's alleged attack on "on-again, off-again" girlfriend Christy Mack and another man, backing up Mack's harrowing personal account of the incident while adding more brutal details. According to the documents, War Machine beat and kicked Mack so many times she lost track, held a knife to her head, and told her "that's my pussy and I'm gonna take it back now."

Mack was interviewed twice, first by a Las Vegas police officer at the hospital and later by an investigator with the sexual assault unit. During the second interview, the injuries to Mack's face were so bad they affected her speech, and a detective occasionally had to repeat back her answers for clarity.

Here is how Mack, also known as Christine Mackinday, described the attack, according to a declaration of warrant issued by Las Vegas police:

Mack said she and Corey Thomas were in bed when they woke up to the sound of her two pit bulls barking. War Machine, born Jonathan Koppenhaver, came into her room. He has the keys to her home, Mack said, and he turned on the light. That's when the assault began.

According to Thomas, War Machine punched him in the face about 15 times. Mack said she told him to stop, but War Machine kept punching. Mack at first told police that War Machine had taken her phone, but later said she'd called 911 and hid the phone so the operator could hear.

Mackinday explained Koppenhaver choked Thomas by placing Thomas in a "rear naked choke." Mackinday described this as Koppenhaver placing his arm around Thomas' throat and grabbing his arm with his other hand to "get a good grasp." The fighting continued for approximately 10 minutes and Koppenhaver eventually released Thomas from the choke hold ... Thomas was bleeding "profusely" from his face and Koppenhaver had Thomas's blood on his shirt. Koppenhaver told Thomas to leave and told Thomas that he would kill him if he reported this and Koppenhaver went to jail. Koppenhaver said he would give his friends all of Thomas's information and his friends would find Thomas and kill him if anything happened to Koppenhaver.

After Thomas left and called police, Mack said, War Machine turned on her. He hit her so many times, according to Mack, that she couldn't remember where he had struck her first, and at one point she lost consciousness. She said the beating continued until War Machine undressed Mack and forced her to take a shower.

The next thing Mackinday recalled was being on the bathroom floor, naked, and Koppenhaver continued to hit her in the face. Mackinday recalled Koppenhaver punched and kicked her left leg while she was in the fetal position on the ground. Mackinday further recalled being on "all fours" by the shower and Koppenhaver kicked her in the ribs. ...

Mackinday remembers Koppenhaver going through her Instagram and Twitter accounts (@ChristyMack) and everytime Koppenhaver found something he did not like, he would hit her in the face with both, open and closed fists. ...

Mack said she was on the bathroom floor when War Machine told her "that's my pussy and I'm gonna take it back now," then licked his hand and put it on her vagina. Mack said he told her he was going to rape her, but he "could not get hard" and was mad about it.

Mack told police she escaped when War Machine left the bedroom for the kitchen, in search of a sharper knife than the one he had allegedly held to her head.

War Machine was arrested Friday in Simi Valley, Calif., and faces charges from Clark County prosecutors of assault with a deadly weapon, coercion, open or gross lewdness, and four different counts of battery. He is being held in Ventura County's main jail without bond.
