Chris Loschiavo was a Title IX official at the University of Florida when he was supposed to hear the Antonio Callaway student-conduct case. Then he was suddenly removed from it and replaced by an outside attorney and football booster, who found the football player not responsible for sexual assault. On August 23 of last year, he was fired. In December, Florida released a highly redacted investigative report that said Loschiavo had “both a conflict of interest and a lack of independence” in a certain Title IX case. While many details were missing from Florida’s investigative report, lawyers for Callaway had filed a complaint because, they said, among other concerns, Loschiavo did consulting work for an outside higher-education management group that served as an umbrella group for another organization whose board included the attorney for the woman who filed the complaint. (They also thought Loschiavo had too much control over the Title IX process.)
Now, though, Florida is saying none of this is why he was terminated. It was instead because they found him buying porn with his work email account.
This news was first reported yesterday by the Gainesville Sun. According to the Sun, it got copies of the records via a public-records request, then asked for an interview with Loschiavo’s supervisor, dean of students Jen Day Shaw. Shortly afterward, the newspaper got an email from UF spokeswoman Margot Winick. The university provided the same statement, dated May 30, today to Deadspin.
Dr. Jen Day Shaw, University of Florida Dean of Students and Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, resigned today in lieu of non-renewal of her appointment. The university decided not to renew her appointment due to a critical error in judgment when she gave misleading and incomplete information in providing a positive reference to another university for Chris Loschiavo, a former Title IX coordinator at UF Student Affairs, who reported to Day Shaw. UF immediately terminated Loschiavo’s employment in late August when it learned he used his UF work computer account to purchase pornography.
The “positive reference” refers to Day Shaw recommending Loschiavo to Florida Polytechnic University for a job as its Title IX coordinator. The Sun reported that Florida Polytechnic fired Loschiavo once they found out about the porn purchases.

There was also a purchase in January 2016, of a backless dress for women from NastyDress.com. The Sun reported that Loschiavo also “responded in March to a site that shows short, lewd video clips” on his Twitter account. (When I tried to check his Twitter account today, it was set to private.)
Porn wasn’t the only purchase the emails turned up. All the receipts are from PayPal, which would then send a receipt to Loschiavo for his purchase. Headers show that email would then be forwarded to Loschiavo’s personal email account. The documents provided also showed these purchases:
