Former NFL Wide Receiver Sam Hurd Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison

Sam Hurd, the former Cowboys and Bears receiver, faced up to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to drug trafficking earlier this year. At a hearing today in a U.S. District courtroom in Dallas, judge Jorge Solis sentenced Hurd to 15 years in federal prison.

Hurd has been behind bars since June 2012, when his bond was revoked. In his detailed account of Hurd's case, The MMQB's Michael McKnight touched on the shady ways the feds use cases like Hurd's as part of the War on Drugs. Below is our summary of McKnight's excellent story.
