The Swedish men’s hockey team beat Norway 4-0 in a preliminary round game yesterday, and it was a particularly tough night for Norway’s Kristian Forsberg, who got to live out every hockey player’s worst nightmare.
During a scrum in the second period, Sweden’s Joel Lundqvist tumbled over and kicked his leg up into the air. His skate slipped just under Forsberg’s visor, and opened a gash on the Norwegian’s face. The referee stopped the game immediately so that Forsberg, who was bleeding quite a lot, could make his way off the ice.
Forsberg left the game and got his face stitched up, and was actually able to return to the ice in the third period. After the game he told NRK.com, “When you see blood, you think the worst thing, but I quickly confirmed that it was not so serious.” Whatever you say, man!
