Today NFL commissioner Roger Goodell hosted USA Football and a few player safety coaches for a conference on Heads Up Football, "a free program that teaches proper tackling technique, concussion awareness and offers coaching education to youth football leagues." Youth football player safety coach Michael Brandt took the opportunity to demonstrate the "proper tackling technique," on commissioner Goodell in front of the whole group and (fortunately for us) someone's iPhone. Takeaway message? The "proper tackling technique," according to this demo, appears to be as follows: hug your opponent (whose arms will be outstretched and waiting), pick them up, then put them down. Gently.
