Hunter Pence put the Giants ahead of the Rockies in the fifth inning of last night’s game with a two-run home run to center. Unfortunately for him, the man on base was pitcher Johnny Cueto.
Cueto, who’d singled in the at-bat immediately prior to Pence’s home run, had no intention of hustling home. Instead, he basically walk-jogged down the third-base line as Pence trotted behind him.
It was the baseball equivalent of when you’re on the sidewalk and the person in front of you is pretty slow and you kind of start, stop, start, stop, trying to figure out if you can pass them. Eventually, the goofy duo made it to the plate. Pence later drove in the winning run with a sac fly in the bottom of the ninth.
