John Tavares buried this game-winner 15 seconds into overtime to give the New York Islanders a 2-1 series lead over the Washington Capitals.
The Islanders took a one-goal lead in the second period, but the Capitals tied the game with just over six minutes left in the third period on a goal from Nicklas Backstrom. Soon into the overtime period, Tavares took a hack at the puck after Caps goalie Braden Holtby shoved it aside with his stick. Tavares managed to float the puck behind Holtby’s back into the net to end the game.
The teams have now traded wins in the first three games of the series. The next matchup is Tuesday in New York.
