It's never been more obvious that the college bowl system as we know it is in trouble; now they're marketing the games like minor league baseball. And so, enter: The Village People.
The Brut Sun Bowl in El Paso has 50,000 seats to fill, and they're not counting on Oregon State or Pitt to do it. So Sun Bowl officials are going to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most people singing a Village People song at one time.
Sun Bowl Association officials are also looking to break the Guinness World Record for the largest YMCA dance, when the group performs during halftime of the Brut Sun Bowl. The record was established on July 4, 2001, when 13,588 people danced to the song "YMCA" for five minutes at a baseball game between the Omaha Spikes and the Salt Lake Stingers at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha,Neb.
And they're pulling out all the stops: The Village People themselves will be there. In the Navy, come on and join your fellow man, in the Navy, in the Navy ...
Elsewhere on their web site, a claim I find hard to believe:
"We are excited about having Oregon State back to celebrate our 75th anniversary. They did a good job for us in 2006 and they will bring an exciting brand of football to El Paso."
So what's next, bowl committees? Bobblehead giveaways? Mullet competitions? As soon as they break out the Star Wars theme nights, that's the signal for Obama to move in with the National Guard and finally end it.
