A one-year-old baby boy in Brooklyn was saved from serious injury (or worse) after falling off a second-floor fire escape because he landed in the arms of Joe Torre's daughter. Cue the jokes from insufferable Yankees fans wondering if she can play first base.
From the New York Daily News, which also has several photos from the scene:
Cristina Torre, 44, said she was sipping coffee outside Little Cupcake Bake Shop on Third Ave. in Bay Ridge when several bystanders spotted little Dillin Miller dangling from the awning of a frozen yogurt shop next door at about 10 a.m.
“He looked like he was balancing on one of the railings,” Torre told the Daily News. “I didn’t really know what was going to happen. . . . You just move into action — you don’t really think about it.”
Torre said she tried to tell the baby, dressed in a white onesie, not to move as another bystander called 911.
Dillin fell and "literally landed in my arms," Torre said. The baby got outside through a piece of cardboard next to a window air conditioning unit while his parents slept. Cops also found his three sisters—ages 2, 3, and 5—roaming around the spartan apartment, which the Daily News described as a "health hazard." Dillin's parents were charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. Torre joked that she got her skills from her famous father.
