This week Detroit Lions linebacker Justin Durant, a free agent, popped by a Chick-fil-A and filled out part of an application. (Middle initial: R.) His explanation was succinct. “Rough outchea bruh,” he tweeted.
Incidentally his Twitter bio at present describes him as “Hongry,” which makes fast food a natural path but for the fact that he’s a seventh-year pro coming off a career-high in total tackles last year. Chances are slim that he’ll actually work at a Chick-fil-A any time soon. But don’t forget that for a lot of people — namely young people facing a top-heavy economy in which teenagers’ unemployment tops 23 percent — applying to Chick-fil-A isn’t an ironic gesture. There are lots of people out there who really, earnestly hope they get a job at Chick-fil-A right now.
And if they don’t get it? It’s rough outchea. But when they do? Guys, it’s seriously great news.
