We hadn’t heard much from Art Briles for a while, and that was a good thing. The disgraced former Baylor coach, who ran the program amidst a horrifying and wide-ranging sexual assault scandal, has popped up here and there in efforts to salvage his public image, even as new lawsuits against Baylor continue to mount. It would probably be best for everyone if Briles just shut up and kept his stench away from the football world.
Alas, we’re not so lucky. Briles’s son Kendal recently joined Lane Kiffin’s staff over at Florida Atlantic. Both Kiffin and Kendal Briles brought up Art this week, who’s apparently been helping out with the Owls’ offense.
“Obviously, he has ideas,” Kendal said. “He wants to know personnel and different guys and making sure we’re getting those guys in the right spots and getting them touches and all that stuff. He’s a football coach, that’s all he’s ever been. He’s definitely involved and we talk daily.”
Kendal said he’s sent film to Art before to help with the FAU offense. On Monday, Kiffin said he’s spoken with Art a couple times.
“Obviously, he’s done unbelievable things on offense,” Kiffin said. “It’s his system that he started years and years ago. Every once in a while, I’ll text or call him and bounce something off of him.”
Congratulations to Kiffin and the Owls for working with such a standup guy!
