Agent: LeBron Will Opt Out Of Miami Contract, Become Free Agent

LeBron James is once again a free agent. Everyone report to your battle stations. This is not a drill.

At this point, we don't know anything about LeBron's plans other than the fact that he is opting out of his current contract. This doesn't necessarily mean that he is bolting Miami for another team. This could be LeBron positioning himself to re-sign with the Heat at a discounted rate so they can build a better team around him, and it could even be the first step in the elaborate bring-Melo-to-Miami scheme that was reportedly being explored earlier this month.

But this could also mean that LeBron is done with Miami and its suddenly pedestrian roster. If that's the case, then things are about to get crazy this summer. For the second time in four years, the best basketball player in the world is on the market, and whatever decision he makes will essentially reshape the league. (For a good rundown of which teams might be the best fit for LeBron, see Zach Lowe's prescient analysis from four days ago.)

So get ready. Put your talk radio station on speed dial, prepare your hottest takes, and start trying to figure out which hypothetical decision would make LeBron a selfish asshole and which one would make him a hero.
