RoboCop threw out the ceremonial first pitch in Detroit today, and it was only marginally better than his latest movie. His appearance was supposed to coincide with an unveiling of the long-dreamt-of statue everyone wants to see planted in old Detroit, but alas, that didn't really come off, either.
Even if he was firing blanks, RoboCop was on the mound, which is plenty rad in itself. And even if Detroit dithers on erecting a new statue (maybe the city's just preemptively tearing it down?) its citizens can still be proud of the most bang-up piece of public sculpture in America today: Joe Louis's big, swinging fist. Stay strong, Detroit.
