Rhys Hoskins hit 91 homers in the minor leagues, including 38 last season and 29 this year. The Phillies called him up last Thursday, but he was stuck on one lonely single so far in his major league career.
Until last night: Hoskins hit a pair of home runs in the Phillies’ 7-4 loss to the Padres in San Diego. The first was a 400-foot shot to left center. The second was…a 402-foot shot to center. Despite hitting just .167 in the majors, Hoskins has an OPS of .863 thanks to the homers (as well as three walks and one HBP).
As is tradition, Hoskins was given the silent treatment when he entered the dugout.
Eventually, the team jumped all over him in the dugout. After his second homer, Hoskins was greeted with high-fives as he walked off the field.
Hoskins said he doesn’t remember much about his first home run trot. “You dream about getting here, and then you dream about hitting a home run here,” Hoskins told reporters afterward. “I don’t really remember it, to be completely honest. Not one bit. I think it hit me when I got back to the dugout.”
