Women in sports journalism are now telling their stories of assault and harassment in their workplaces. There have been women speaking out about working at ESPN, NFL Network, and Fox Sports. But there’s no reason to think the behavior is contained only to national networks or certain media enclaves. Today, photographer Betsy Bissen told her story on Twitter.
Another person on Twitter also spoke out, supporting Bissen: “For anyone doubting her, she told me and other friends/family right after it happened. It was her story to share on her own timetable. Stop before questioning why she waited until now.”
Bissen added in a follow-up post that “the Twins knew nothing about what happened to me.” She later said that trolls were “in full force” on her Instagram account.
The Twins released the following statement.
Today the Minnesota Twins were made aware of allegations involving Miguel Sanó at an offsite appearance during the 2015 season.
The Twins, along with Major League Baseball, take these allegations very seriously. Until more information is gathered, the Twins will have no further comment.
Sanó released a statement to TMZ.
“I unequivocally deny the allegation made against me today—it never happened.
“I have the utmost respect for women, especially those working in professional sports, and I deeply sympathize with anyone who has experienced sexual harassment. There is no place for it in our society.”
