Report: UNM Football Coach Bob Davie Under Investigation For Player Mistreatment

Bob Davie, head football coach of the New Mexico Lobos, is being investigated by the university following allegations of player mistreatment and questions about the integrity of the team’s drug-testing program, according to NMFishbowl.com.

According to the report, the school has hired an outside investigator to look into these allegations. Earlier this year, NMFishbowl.com reported that Davie was not a popular figure amongst some of his players, as evidenced by exit interviews obtained by the site. In those interviews, Davies was characterized as aloof and having “no personal relationship with players.” These latest allegations are more troubling, though.

This is how NMFishbowl.com described what they’ve learned:

According to multiple sources apprised of the investigation, the school is looking into specific claims of player mistreatment, as well as allegations about the athlete drug-testing process being compromised.

The Davie investigation was initiated in recent months, sources say, following the latest round of athlete exit interviews conducted over the spring.

NMFishbowl.com has not been told who the school has tasked with carrying out the investigation, or what precisely triggered it. However, sources say that the severity and volume of the allegations made by players were deemed to be of a serious enough nature as to warrant outside review.

A university spokesman confirmed that there is an ongoing investigation into the athletics department, but would not confirm whether Davie himself was a target.
