After a tumultuous week that featured reportedly unverifiable claims of death threats and concluded with a 42-7 loss to Georgia, Jim McElwain and Florida have parted ways with four games left in the season, per multiple reports and first reported by Football Scoop.
The Gators, who began the season ranked 17th in the AP poll, are now 3-4 with an active three-game losing streak. McElwain, in his third season, was 22-12 overall at Florida.
On Monday, McElwain told reporters that both his players and his family had received death threats, but ESPN reported that the University of Florida had found no evidence to substantiate these claims, and that school administrators were looking into whether they could fire McElwain for cause because of his statements.
McElwain met with Florida administrators this morning, but details of his departure are currently unknown.
