Rockies Co-Owner Takes Smiling Happy DUI Mug Shot [Updated]

Charles Monfort, the Colorado Rockies' co-owner and managing general partner, got pinched on suspicion of DUI on Monday in Windsor, Colo. The Denver Post says he was also cited for driving 10 to 19 mph over the speed limit, and that he posted bond and was released yesterday. In a statement issued last night, Monfort says he was "extremely disappointed." In his mug shot, Monfort looks something less than "extremely disappointed."

It is not known how drunk Monfort allegedly was, though we've reached out to police in Windsor (Colo.) for a copy of the arrest affidavit. This is not Monfort's first DUI arrest. Citing court records, the Denver Post says he was cited for having a blood-alcohol content of .209 in 1999, but that the charges were later reduced to driving while ability impaired. In September, Denver Post columnist Mark Kiszla said Monfort had alcohol on his breath when the two had a verbal confrontation after a blowout loss. Monfort later apologized to Kiszla.

In recent years, Monfort, 54, has ceded control of the Rockies' day-to-day operations to his brother, Richard, the team's chairman and CEO.

Update (6:53 p.m.): ABC7 in Denver got hold of the arrest affidavit. While Monfort refused to take a roadside sobriety test, a breath test revealed he was completely shithoused with a .284 BAC. "I had about two beers," Monfort told cops, per the affidavit, before later admitting that was a lie.
