Novak Djokovic led Serbia to a big win over Sam Querrey and the U.S. in the Davis Cup yesterday, but at what cost?
Djokovic twisted his right ankle early in the first set. He was clearly in pain, took some drugs, got it taped up and played on. He won the match in four sets. Djokovic really, really loves his country and he was super emotional about the win. After the match, his doctor told him the injury appeared to be serious and that's when he broke down in tears during a Serbian TV interview.
Here's one translation: "Emotions are high, certainly, playing for Serbia is a great honour and pleasure. As for the injury—it’s not good [starts crying] I don’t know, I don’t know what’ll happen, but I hope it’ll be fine."
Djokovic flew back home to get an MRI, but his doctors now seem to think the ankle should be OK.
