The Jets began their quest for six wins today with their first day of OTAs. Per ESPN, defensive end Sheldon Richardson was a happy man:
“The locker room is a whole lot easier to get along with now,” Richardson told reporters. Asked to elaborate, he smiled and said, “Man oh man, y’all are thirsty. Let’s just say I’ve got 15 reasons why it’s better.”
Fifteen, eh? Is that old beef I smell? Fifteen was the Jets jersey number worn the last two seasons by wideout Brandon Marshall, who asked for and was granted his release this offseason before moving just up the road to join the Giants. Marshall and Richardson had cooked up a little beef last year, right around the time the Jets’ season officially started to go sideways.
The two players reportedly got into a “heated verbal altercation” in the locker room after a Week 3 loss to the Chiefs. In December, Marshall called it “unacceptable” after Richardson had a Snapchat incident before yet another loss. A week later, Richardson flung some mud right back by saying Marshall “should be embarrassed” without really elaborating except to say, “He knows what he did.”
According to Darrelle Revis, the animosity that started in Kansas City between Richardson and Marshall left “a dark cloud” hanging over the Jets for the rest of the year. But that’s all in the past. Another season is approaching, which means it’s time for the Jets to aim high for a new low.
