The Fat Guy Who Ran Down Devin Hester

The video above shows Devin Hester returning a missed 60-yard field goal 70-odd yards in Browns-Falcons on Sunday. It also shows 315-pound rookie left guard Joel Bitonio huffing 70-odd yards down the field in coverage to take Hester on an angle and save a touchdown.

You've seen Hester do this before. He's the one who basically brought into vogue sticking a return man in the end zone for long field goals that aren't at the end of a half, taking advantage of the slower blocking units in on those plays:

And on Sunday, that guy was run down by this guy:

Bitonio ran a 4.97 40 at the combine; Hester forced Madden to make a 100 speed rating for him. This wasn't exactly fair. Or as Joe Thomas said after the game, "That was the most amazing play I've ever seen on a football field. It was like David vs. Goliath. It was the greatest kick returner of all-time versus slow, fat, left guard, rookie."

Bitonio is a converted left tackle, but has played well this year, and has been good in the run game the last few weeks. But running down Devin Hester in the open field (even if your kicker had to get in his way) is probably the coolest thing he'll do as a rookie.
