Since everyone knows this is Derek Jeter's last season, teams are putting on special ceremonies (like they did with Mariano Rivera) for Jeets, where they give him gifts and make donations to his charity. Tonight is the last time Derek Jeter will be playing a regular season game in Texas (hey, you never know), so they brought out the big guns: cowboy boots and George W. Bush.
Jeter and 43 have an interesting bond that has clearly left an impression: in 2001, then President Bush threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 3 of the World Series, a little over a month after the September 11 attacks. Before heading out to the field, Jeter told him to throw from the mound and "don't bounce it because they'll boo you." In the video below you can see Bush mouth the words again.
Bush was also former Governor of Texas and one-time owner of the Rangers, so it's not exactly an impossible get for the Rangers, but good luck to whatever team tries to follow a surprise visit from a former President of the United States by giving Jeter a Sea-Doo or whatever.
