Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt dropped off his recently stabbed younger brother at a Jersey City hospital late on Saturday night, and has not spent his Sunday cooperating with the subsequent police investigation. The Jersey Journal reports:
The brother of Kenny Britt was stabbed early this morning in a fight in Jersey City and was taken to the hospital by the NFL star, who refused to talk about the incident, police reports said.
And, about an hour-and-a-half later, a gun shot rang out at a home near where the stabbing occurred. The shot was fired just after the Tennessee Titans football star picked up a woman identified by police as Britt's girlfriend at the house near where the stabbing took place, police said.
Police were called to a birthday party at a home on Van Nostrand Avenue between Sterling and West Side Avenue in Jersey City at 3:28 a.m. on the report of a stabbing during a fight involving a large group of people, reports said. But when they arrived there was no sign of trouble, reports said.
Police were then notified that a stabbing victim later identified as Britt's 23-year-old brother had walked into the Jersey City Medical Center accompanied by Britt, reports said. Britt, who grew up in Bayonne, was uncooperative with police and left the hospital, reports said.
Britt's younger brother, whose injuries were not life-threatening, also declined to answer questions from the police. Police interviewed a woman that said the stabbing occurred when a fight spilled over from next door into the party that the Britts were attending.
Britt grew up in Bayonne, NJ, played his college ball at Rutgers, and was drafted by the Titans in 2009. Jersey City police captain Edgar Martinez told The Tennesean, "[W]e are looking to speak to him. This is an ongoing investigation, and when the detectives speak to him then we'll know more. Right now, we have a lot of unanswered questions so we are looking for him to come in and answer some questions for us."
