The student who accused freshman quarterback Treon Harris of sexual battery has dropped her complaint, the University of Florida said today in a statement.
The student who accused Treon Harris of sexual battery has withdrawn her criminal complaint. This means she is not pursuing criminal charges against him at this time but maintains the right to do so in the future.
The decision to withdraw her complaint came one day after Harris's defense lawyer, go-to Gator defender Huntley Johnson, released a detailed statement that did everything but flat-out say the accuser was at fault for whatever happened to her.
As for Harris's status with the football team, Florida said more information about that will come out later today. The statement added that the police report also will be released "when it is available." The university already released the report last week—a version redacted to the point of saying nothing. If the case is closed, Florida could re-release the report with fewer redactions.
Update: Florida put out a statement at 4:40 p.m. saying, "the university is not proceeding with any action." Coach Will Muschamp later said that Harris was reinstated with the team but would not play against LSU.
