British boxer Tyson Fury—who became the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight world champion when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko in a November unanimous decision—has already lost one of those titles. Fury was stripped of his IBF title after just 10 days because he wouldn’t agree to fight IBF mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov, according to the BBC. Instead, Fury will have a rematch against Klitschko.
Losing one of his titles wasn’t the only bad news for Fury today. The Greater Manchester Police told AP that they have opened an investigation after receiving a report of a hate crime over comments Fury made to an interviewer last month. In response to a question about his belief in the coming armageddon, Fury said:
It says there will be a time when men lay with men and women lay with women and that’s accepted and it’s only in 1967 when these things were OK: abortions, being homosexual in public. So from 1967 until now. There are only three things that need to be accomplished before the Devil comes home. One of them is homosexuality being legal in countries, one of them is abortion and the other is paedophilia. So who would have thought in the 50s and early 60s that those first two would be legalised. When I say paedophiles can be made legal, that sounds like crazy talk doesn’t it but back in the 50s and early 60s, for them first two to be made legal would have been looked on as a crazy man again.
Last week, Fury said in a video that, “a woman’s best place is in the kitchen and on her back, that’s my personal belief,” and then defended all his recent controversial comments by telling his critics to, “suck my balls.”
