Shabazz Napier had 22 points on 8-16 shooting and was named the most outstanding player of the Final Four after UConn's 60-54 win over Kentucky in the NCAA title game. The Huskies became the first No. 7 seed to win the NCAA Tournament.
Both teams shot nearly the same percentage from the field but UConn was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line to Kentucky's 13-24. We hate to say if you just made your free throws, but...you know.
The final Kentucky possession was almost, almost, exactly like every other final possession it seemed this year. They kept on throwing up shots and you sort of just felt like they were going to go in. When they didn't, the rebounds landed in Kentucky hands so you thought, OK, now they're going to hit it. In his post-game interview, Calipari said he thought they were going to win at halftime. He'd seen this movie again, but this time his freshman didn't hit the shots. UConn did.
