Over on Quartz, Roberto A. Ferdman and David Yanofsky have mapped out a great dataset from Starbucks (above), showing which sorts of drinks are ordered in different parts of the country.
In blue states (and SoCal), iced drinks are more popular overall than hot drinks. Before we all go and get ourselves confused: The text IS NOT showing the most popular drink in each city; it's showing the drink that's more popular in that city than anywhere else. While it's fun to imagine that everyone in Portland drinks eggnog lattes, the reality is that they mostly drink regular coffee, and anyone spotted drinking corporate coffee is executed.
