Will King George Miss Yankee Stadium's Final Game?

George Steinbrenner's offspring - Hal, Hank, Jennifer, and Jessica - will all be on hand for the historic occasion in New York tomorrow night, but it appears as though the old man (who, for years, has pushed for his Yankees to get a new ballpark) will not be in attendance. King George, who officially put his two sons in charge of the franchise earlier this year, will reportedly be in Tampa while the rest of the baseball universe says adios to Yankee Stadium.

Steinbrenner, the Yankees owner, made it to July's All-Star Game, where he was honored on the field before the game. But word was Friday he does not plan to fly up from Tampa, Fla., for the finale. George Steinbrenner is not expected to attend Sunday night's Yankee Stadium finale, but a number of Yankees Hall of Famers will be on hand, and fans who show up early will be able to walk onto the field.

You know, it's entirely possible that The Boss hasn't watched a single Yankee game this year, be it on television or in the Bronx (the team certainly hasn't given him any good reason to make the trek from Florida to NYC). Why should tomorrow be any different? Big names expected at Yankee Stadium finale, Steinbrenner not among them [NJ Star-Ledger]
